Ramsey Lake / Hospital Area

EXPLORE
THE COMMUNITY

The Ramsey Lake/Hospital area, as well as bordering neighborhoods of Lockerby and Lo-Ellen Park, are highly sought-after areas in Sudbury. These neighborhoods offer beautiful homes with lakefront properties or breathtaking views of lakes such as Ramsey, Bethel, Laurentian, and Nepahwin. The area provides a park-like setting that is close to ski and walking trails, yet only minutes away from urban amenities. However, one of the challenges faced by city officials and residents is how to meet the demand for housing and recreation activities in this area while still preserving its wilderness landscape.

The “Hospital area” traditionally refers to the neighborhoods surrounding the former General Hospital on Paris Street. It includes both affluent and middle-class neighborhoods in the York Street area, leading to the former Memorial Hospital on Regent Street, as well as neighborhoods in the Martindale area. These neighborhoods are older than those around Ramsey Lake but feature well-maintained homes and beautiful gardens. Residents in this area enjoy proximity to Bell Park and the Lily Creek Boardwalk, as well as schools, Science North, Laurentian University, and the James Jerome Sports Complex.

The South End also includes newer developments such as the Moonglo and Corsi Hill subdivisions. These stylish luxury homes offer stunning views overlooking the city. Despite the challenges of balancing housing demand and preserving the natural landscape, the South End of Sudbury continues to be a highly desirable area for its beautiful homes, proximity to amenities, and access to outdoor recreational opportunities.
