Flour Mill District
EXPLORE
THE COMMUNITY
The Flour Mill area holds a special place in Sudbury’s Franco-Ontarian community. The landmark of the six yellow silos which are over 100 years old represent it’s history from the former Manitoba and Ontario Flour Mill company. These silos, over a century old, have withstood the test of time and are closely associated with the city’s French-speaking community.
Located just north of downtown Sudbury, the area surrounding the Flour Mill is home to a thriving mix of local businesses and popular chains like Leon’s, The Brick and Staples. The small malls along Notre Dame Avenue make it a sought-after destination for shopping. It is also adjacent to Cambrian Heights where College Boreal and the Terry Fox Sports complex. The famous Neo-Gothic building, St. Jean de Brebeuf Catholic Church is also in this area, originally built in 1930 but rebuilt after a fire in 1980. This proud working-class neighborhood has also gained popularity among young families due to its affordable housing options and central location, providing easy access to downtown and New Sudbury.
